Mercedes has released a new AMG GT for 2019.
Well, by new, I of course mean a tiny bit of a facelift and chopping the roof off. That’s right! The brutish German is having it’s top chopped and is now rocking a bowl cut.
Let’s start with the facts. The new GT roadster comes with a 4.0-litre V8 with a 7-speed transmission that produces around 476bhp and a top speed of 188mph. Not bad for a car that can ruin your brand new hair-do you got from the local Turkish barber.
The refreshed AMG GT features new exhaust tailpipes, exterior styling enhancements, new LED High-Performance headlamps, and front and rear view camera, with parking sensors and parking assistant – because good luck parking that in your local supermarket carpark.
There’s also a rather lovely GT-S version of both cars, The GT S Coupé and Roadster have an output of 522 hp and 670 Nm of torque. They can reach 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and while the Roadster has a top speed of 191 mph, the Coupé can reach 193 mph.
The GT S adds electronically controlled AMG rear axle limited-slip differential lock, 19-inch/20-inch ten-spoke AMG alloy wheels and AMG Ride Control sports suspension with adjustable damper system.
But wait, there’s more! If you’ve still got some cash left you could treat yourself to one of Mercedes optional, “but really we actually want you to get these because they make the car look more aggressive than a wombat on steroids” packages.
There’s a “Driving Assistance” package available for £1,695 in case you forgot you had a driving licence. This adds Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, and Pre-Safe anticipatory safety system.
The AMG Carbon Fibre package can be added for £4,495 and includes extra bits that will wow your local car club, especially Kevin with his modified three series. You get a carbon fibre rear diffuser, exterior mirror housings in carbon fibre, air inlet grille in the front apron in a high-gloss black, front splitter in carbon fibre and rear windows with privacy glass (Coupé only).
The AMG Chrome package is available for £1,395 and pretty much gives you exactly what it says on the tin. A front splitter in silver chrome, diffuser trim in silver chrome, air inlet grille in the front apron in matt black, inserts in the side skirts in silver chrome, rear side window with privacy glass (Coupé only) and trim strip in the diffuser in high-gloss chrome.
For £995 the AMG Night package can be added and includes everything you’ve already read twice but in, you guessed it, gloss black!
The new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé and Roadster are available to order, with prices starting from £104,130 for the GT Coupé and from £115,730 for the GT Roadster.
